Harambee Stars depart for Congo Brazzaville for the African Cup of Nations qualifying match

Football Kenya Federation on Thursday cleared pending allowances for Harambee Stars players’ as they prepare to depart for Congo on Friday

Harambee Stars players were paid allowances on Thursday night as they prepared to depart for Congo Brazzaville for Sunday’s African Cup of Nations qualifying match.

Football Kenya Federation President Sam Nyamweya visited the team at their residential hotel and gave Sh2million to captain Victor Wanyama. According to Nyamweya, the money will cover for full allowances since the team started residential training ahead of the qualifier.

“We want to make sure that these players are happy because they have a big assignment on Sunday and that is why we have decided to clear all their allowances. This includes their trip to Rwanda for the Peace Cup tournament,

Norway-based goalkeeper Arnold Origi is disappointed that he will not feature for Harambee Stars during Sunday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo Brazzaville.

Origi has also blamed Football Kenya Federation for sending a release request to his club late. “I really wanted to be part of the team as they start their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations campaign but someone in FKF did not do their job well and sent the request for release very late,” said Origi.

He added: “However, I also blame my club for refusing to release me because there are no league matches this weekend and even if the request came late, I should have been allowed to go.

“Nonetheless, I want to urge my fellow players to give it their best shot and ensure we start well. It should not be like we cannot perform in the absence of one player. I hope to be back in the team at an opportune time so long as everything is done well.”
