Tononoka School Principal Dies After Testing Positive For Covid-19

Tononoka High School in Mombasa is in mourning of the death of its principal, Mohammed Khamis who died from Covid-19 related complications.

The deputy principal of the school confirmed that he died after testing positive for the virus.

Tononoka School was shut down after 11 teachers reportedly tested positive for Covid-19.

“This is to inform you that all school operations have been temporarily suspended with effect from today, Monday, October 19 to allow fumigation. The school normal operations will resume on Monday, November 2,” reads a notice from the school.

Mombasa County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo confirmed that the school had been closed for two weeks to allow for fumigation.

The incident occurred two weeks after Education CS Professor George Magoha ordered the re-opening of schools on 12 October.

Education CAS Zack Kinuthia noted that schools will not be shut down again and National examinations would proceed as scheduled.
