Unusual Heavy Rains Cause Havoc in Dubai

Flooding and heavy rainfall has caused disruption at Dubai International Airport over the weekend. On specifically Saturday, heavy rains up to 150mm per hour for 2.5 hours in Dubai brought life to a standstill, as roads were flooded. Several streets in Dubai have been flooded after the emirate received nonstop rains in the last two days.

Dubai International Airport operator speculated delays likely to continue throughout Saturday, while some flights were cancelled or diverted. Images shared on social media showed streets submerged by water and even parts of the airport flooded.
Dubai’s government said there had been “unusually heavy rain”, causing “pools of water” in some parts of the Emirates ‘largest city.

Some Dubai tenants faced a major clean-up operation as their properties flooded.
Residents told of how they woke up to flooded properties, forcing them to spend the day with mops in hand as they struggled to cope with the havoc caused

An army of more than 3,000 Dubai Municipality staff are working tirelessly to drain water from affected areas across the emirate.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority had a 600-strong team working round the clock to clear up waterlogged roads before the early-morning commute.
