Zindzi Mandela, daughter of the late South African anti-apartheid leaders Nelson and Winnie Mandela has died at the age of 59. She was South Africa’s Ambassador to Denmark at the time of her death.
State television South African Broadcasting Corporation has reported she died at a Johannesburg hospital early Monday morning.
She first came to limelight in 1985 when her father was offered a conditional release by the South African President, P. W. Botha and Zindzi was chosen to read his refusal at a public meeting on 10 February.
She was the younger sister to Zenani Mandela and the third of Nelson Mandela’s three daughters.
Nelson Mandela her father died in December 2013, while her mother Winnie Madikizela Mandela passed away in April 2018.
Zindzi studied law at the University of Cape Town before following in her family’s political footsteps.she once acted as South Africa’s First Lady after her father elected her because her parents were divorced by then.
