In accordance with Section 30 (1) (e) of the Teachers Service Commission Act, 30 teachers from different schools across the country were deregistered by the Teachers Service Commission(TSC), in a Gazette Notice released on Friday, October 23,2020.

“The commission may, after inquiry, cause to be removed from the register the name of any person who the commission has directed should be removed as a result of disciplinary proceedings instituted under this act,” read a section of the law.

After being excluded from the TSC registry, the teachers will not be allowed to teach in any of Kenya’s public or private schools.

However, the teachers concerned can, at the discretion of the Commission, choose to apply for re-establishment.

Under the TSC Act, school managers or owners who hire unregistered teachers are guilty of an offense and liable to a fine of not less than Ksh 100,000 or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years or both.q
