There was a terrible accident yesterday at Kisian junction along the busy Kisumu-Busia highway. The accident involved three vehicles. Atleast 7 people died on the spot. 2 more succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment in the hospital.
County police boss Ranson Lolmodoni said investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the accident.
Locals said the truck which was coming from Maseno and heading towards Kisumu lost control. The lorry carrying sugar cane ramed into two vehicles, a PSV Nissan headed to Busia and a saloon car.
The truck is said to have hit a Nissan matatu which was headed to Busia and another private car.
The driver of the lorry carrying sugarcane tried to escape but was caught by members of the public who beat him up.
He was saved by officers and also currently fighting for his life. The lorry was burnt by the area locals.
