Amidst the ongoing black lives matter protest in the Us and other countries around the world, the cofounder of Reddit company Alexis Ohanian resigns from the company’s board and urges his seat be filled by a black candidate.
In the video that went viral after he recorded himself, he explains why he made the decision. He says he is doing it for himself, family and country.
Alexis Ohanian who is married to the tennis star Serena Williams further says raising a black daughter plays a heavy part in his decision. “I am saying this as a father who needs to be able to answer his daughter when she asks: what did you do?” He explains further.
In addition to him stepping down from the board, he pledged $1 million to Colin Kaerpernick who was expelled by National Football League for kneeling down during the national anthem as a way of protesting back in 2016.
