The famous American actress Angelina Jolie who is the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees(UNHCR) has announced that teachers working in Kenyan refugees camps will be given Sh 155 million as salaries.
She made the announcement on 13 July during a virtual meeting she had hosted and Kenya as country was represented by Acting Director Primary Education, Ms Nereah Olick.
The Uk government donated a total of Sh 713 million to directly pay 5,669 teachers in 10 countries which host refugees. Among the countries that UNHCR selected required the most urgent support and they include: Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Malawi, South Sudan, Yemen, Chad, Mauritania and Pakistan.
1,304 teachers in Kakuma, Dadaab and Kalobeyi camps will benefit from the funds, salaries for 7 months.
