Kenya’s Anti-Terror Squad is investigating an incident where the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) confiscated 400 kilograms of restricted explosives near the Kenya-Tanzania border on Thursday, 12 November.

The explosives discovered in the border town of Isebania are suspected to have been sneaked into Kenya from Tanzania, where they were transported by motorcycles.

According to KRA, 2,560 pieces of suspected explosives with a brand name Explogel V6 were found wrapped in polypropylene bags and packed in 16 cartons each weighing 25 kilograms.

Officers from the Customs and Border Control Department indicated that the explosives could have been manufactured in South Africa.

“KRA in partnership with the National Police Service were acting on intelligence that the illegal goods had been stored in a warehouse around Isebania town,” reads part of the statement.

A suspect has been arrested and handed over to Anti Terror Police awaiting completion of investigations and prosecution. The items have been stored at the Customs warehouse in Isebania.
