Archbishop Ndingi Mwana a’Nzeki is dead

Retired Catholic Archbishop Raphael Ndingi Mwana a’ Nzeki has died after a long illness.

Reports indicate that the Retired Catholic Archbishop passed away on Tuesday morning.

 

“A sombre morning as his Eminence John Cardinal Njue has announced the passing on of His Grace Archbishop Emeritus Raphael Ndingi Mwana ‘a Nzeki. Let us pray for the repose of his soul,” a statement from the Archdiocese of Nairobi reads.

Mwana a’ Nzeki was born on December 25, 1930 in Machakos.

He served in the dioceses of Machakos from 1969 to 1971) and later served in Nakuru from1972 to 1996).

In 1996 he was made the coadjutor of the Archdiocese of Nairobi as an assistant to the then Cardinal Maurice Michael Otunga.

He later became the archbishop of Nairobi in 1997 to 2007 when he retired at the age of 75.

He was succeeded by the current Cardinal John Njue who was his assistant in Nakuru.

 

ODM leader Raila Odinga has eulogised him as

“one of the brightest lights to have graced our nation in our time. KENYANS knew they could always count on him to stand and speak out for truth and justice whatever the threat that posed to his life,” Raila said.
