Senator of Bomet, Christopher Langat has replaced senator Sakaja as the new ad-hoc chairman of the COVID-19 committee a week after Sakaja resigned.

This came after the senator flouted the COVID-19 curfew rule placed in order to curb the virus.

The change was made through the motion of approval after Senator Sakaja was forced to render his resignation upon receiving a heavy backlash.

“I take responsibility for having flouted the COVID-19 rules, I was outside my home past 9 PM…It is regrettable but all of us make mistakes,” he said.

He formally wrote to Speaker Ken Lusaka on July 21, 2020, tendering his resignation.

“I hereby tender my resignation as the chairman and a member of the Senate Ad-hoc committee on Covid-19,” the letter read.

The senator was arrested on Saturday and charged in court with a 15,000 shillings fine or a three month jail.
