The government of Burundi broke some sad news in regard to the demise of outgoing president Pierre Nkurunziza. As reported, he attended a football match at Ngozi on Saturday 6th June and fell ill afterwards.
He was rushed to the hospital same day for medical treatment. Medic’s report indicate that, there was a slight improvement in his health after receiving treatment on the better part of Sunday.
On Monday morning 8th of June, he had a cardiac arrest where the doctors did their best to save his life but were unable to bring him back. He died at Karusi Fiftieth Anniversary Hospital. The outgoing president was 55 years old when he passed away.
The government of Burundi has therefore declared a mourning period of 7 days from Tuesday 9th of June with the flags set to be raised half mast.
