After a successful season-long loan in 2010-2020, Chris Smalling has returned to AS Roma on a permanent transfer.

The Defender has left Manchester United for a contract that is reportedly worth £18.2M with numerous add-ons.

Both parties have been determined to get this deal done for months now,  even though United apparently got a few extra euros on top of what Roma’s most recent rejected offer was.

“Everyone at Manchester United would like to thank Chris for his years of service, dedication and professionalism, and wish him all the best for his future,” United announced.

Smalling leaves United after 10 years at the club where he made 323 appearances for the club and won the Premier League twice.

During his time in the United States, he also won the FA Cup (2015/16), the League Cup (2016/17) and the UEFA Europa League (2016/17), starting in all three of those finals.

“Nothing in life worth having comes easy. My head and my heart has always been in Rome. I am delighted to now be yours,” Smalling told Roma website after the transfer.
