Lucy Wangu, a teenage girl in Dandora slums, Nairobi, decided to breastfeed and take care of her two-month-old sister after her mother died.
Lucy Wangui’s mother passed away in mid-November 2020 while receiving treatment at the Kiambu County Referral Hospital.
The 18-year-old girl is also the mother of a seven-month-old daughter, and she takes turns caring for the two children.
On Friday, December 4, her elder brother Kevin Kamau revealed that the family had been struggling to survive. The family consists of seven siblings who look up to Kamau, a boda boda rider, as the breadwinner.
“It’s really tough for us. We have not yet received any support yet but we are glad to know that Kenyans are willing to contribute and assist us,” Kamau stated.
The seven siblings are staying in a single room mabati house in Dandora Canaan, a few kilometers from the Korogocho Slums.
