EACC has reclaimed Migori’s Governor Okoth Obado’s house in Loresho.
The Sh 35 million house register under a Jared Peter Kwaga is managed by Obado’s daughter called Evelyn Zachary who collects monthly rent.
“We obtained orders preserving a property in Loresho bought for 35M using funds embezzled from Migori County. The house is registered in the name of Jared who incorporated many companies to trade with the County. The tenant pays rent to the Governor’s daughter Everlyne. We believe that the Governor is the true beneficiary,” EACC officials said.
EACC told the Court that investigations have established a pattern whereby firms associated with known proxies of the Governor who were systematically awarded high value contracts, between 2013 and 2017.
“Further investigations have established that the 1st Respondent used the illicit wealth gained from fraudulent transactions with the County Government of Migori to acquire a property in Nairobi County referred to as, Loresho Ridge House No.C1 on L.R. No.21080/38 (Title Number I.R. 74363) at a cost of Sh34,525,000.00.”
Rent payable in respect of Loresho Ridge House No.C1 on L.R. No.21080/38 (Title Number I.R. 74363) is collected on behalf of the 3rd Respondent by his daughter, the 2nd Respondent.”
“The Applicant is apprehensive that the 1st Respondent, in light of the on-going investigations, may in the intervening period, transfer, dispose or in any other way deal with the properties to defeat the course of justice, before the Commission has completed its investigations and commenced civil proceedings. Hence the intended civil recovery proceedings will be rendered nugatory.”
There is therefore need to preserve property for a period of six (6) months pending conclusion of investigations and institution of forfeiture proceedings.”
Obado’s case over the death of Sharon is still ongoing.
