Facebook  is now set to provide a new way for performers to earn money on the platform. The social networking service is adding more features for Facebook Live real-time videos, including a way to charge for access to content.

This comes as the landscape for streaming has changed dramatically in the past weeks and months, as the world locks down and clubs and venues remain closed. Users can soon set up ‘online-only’ events and users can ‘purchase access’ in advance, and non-profits can add a donate button to their stream.

To support creators and small businesses, we plan to add the ability for Pages to charge for access to events with Live videos on Facebook – anything from online performances to classes to professional conferences,” the announcement reads.

No information is available yet on when the ability to charge for events and streams will be rolled out.
