The government had initiated a program to provide poor citizens who were affected with sh 1,000 weekly since COVID-19 pandemic struck and almost everything came to stand still.
It has now been revealed the program will end in October 2020. The Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui told the parliament, payments will be terminated in the first week of the month.
According to reports, 341,958 households have been enrolled in the program and were receiving sh 1,000 weekly to bail them from the harsh economic times brought by the pandemic.
CS Chelugui said the initial 10 Billion that was allocated was disbursed to prospective recipient by Interior Ministry.
He also added the government targets by the end of the program to have reached 669,000 households across all counties.
