Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru on Monday, November 16, declared that the county headquarters will be closed for two weeks.

In a statement from governor Waiguru’s office, she noted that the action was triggered by the rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in the country.

“Despite efforts to keep the offices running and the staff continuing to physically interact while strictly observing Covid-19 guidelines, these have not borne the desired results; if anything, cases appear to be increasing by the day at the headquarters.

“Accordingly, with effect from Monday 16th November 2020, the county headquarters, which houses hundreds of staff will be temporary closed for two weeks,” Governor Waiguru’s statement read in part.

The County Health Department was ordered to perform mass testing among county employees.

On Sunday, November 15, Kenya reported 972 more Covid-19 positive cases over the last 24 hours as the country’s total caseload rose to 70,245.
