Governor Waititu Impeachment Senate Sessions Commence.

A special committee was set up, and the meeting for the governor’s proceedings are slated in today 21.01.2020, whereby an approval by 50 per cent of the elected senators will hold up Waititu as governor failure to which he seizes to serve the people of Kiambu as governor

The governor will be required to appear to answer to the charges levelled against him, whether before the Senate as a whole.

If the Senate finds the claims substantiated, Mr Waititu will need to appear before it before it makes a decision, but if the claims are unsubstantiated, that will be the end of the proceedings.

The Kiambu County Assembly impeached Waititu on December 19. 63 ward representatives supported the impeachment motion anchored on abuse of office and violation of the Public Finance Management Act.

Mr Waititu’s political star, which had been steadily rising, began waning after he was charged in court. The governor, together with his wife Susan Wangari and eight others, are facing corruption cases after being accused of irregularly awarding themselves Sh580 million tenders.

The sitting gazettement came against the backdrop of a missed 7-day deadline set out under County Governments Act within which the Senate is expected to convene and discuss an impeachment motion upon receipt of a resolution by a County Assembly from its respective Speaker.
