Governor mike Sonko handed over the functions of the County to the National Government which relates to Article 187 of the Kenyan Constitution.
During the hand over members present as witnesses while the signing of the agreement was Speaker of the Senate, Kenneth Lusaka, and the Attorney General Paul Kihara.
The agreement was signed by sonko and the devolution minister Eugene wamalwa under the watch of the president.
The National Government, therefore, will take over the following functions of the Nairobi County Government:C
- County Health services
- County Transport services
- County Public Works, Utilities and Ancillary services
- County Government Planning and Development.
As Kenyans woke to this news Nairobi leaders went on Twitter airing various issues in relation to the county of Nairobi.
Former Governor Dr. Evans Kidero broke his silence after embattled governor Mike Sonko handed over the city-county to National Government.
Taking to his social media handles hours after Sonko surrendering the functions of the County to President National government Kidero said running Nairobi is not a walk in the park.
The former county chief attached a video of him conceding defeat and handing over the county to Sonko.
While acknowledging Sonko as the duly elected governor, he listed some of the projects he had achieved, urging Sonko to continue with the same spirit of working for Nairobians.
In his speech, he entrusts Sonko to run Nairobi, but today, he seems a disappointed man.
Kichumba Murkomen on social media also came out disappointed, being noted saying:
The matter of transfer of functions from Nairobi County to the National Government is such a weighty matter that requires deep deflection. I will be making a comprehensive statement in the Senate tomorrow and this matter will occupy most of our debating time tomorrow. Thank You.
