A 22-year old woman is fighting for her life at Kenyatta Hospital after she was shot six times by a police officer in Igembe North, Meru County.
The officer who is identified as David Nyamweya, is said to be her boyfriend. It is reported David summoned the girlfriend to Laare police station where he shot her following a short quarrel.
The woman had been shot in the stomach and legs by the time other officers intervened and disarmed him.
The pistol used was confiscated as the police collected 8 spent cartridges from the scene. A witness who is a junior officer said, Nyamweya excused himself from the station guard duties saying he needed to pick a jacket from his house.
David Nyamweya is said to have been recently transferred to Kabachi police station. It is then that he went to Laare where he met the girlfriend but a quarrel escalated that led to the shooting.
