Janet Mbugua is one of the powerhouse media personalities in Kenya and recently her passion to create safe space for the girl child by ending period poverty has been one of her many projects.

To announce her incoming book she wrote on her Facebook page some time in October last year;

In October I saw one of my dream projects come to life; the creation of a safe space for girls to have access to sanitary products as well as a hub of information for them to receive education and guidance on their menstrual and sexual health.

The first hopefully of many, the first one in collaboration with @carolinaforkibera. A space too, where women, men and boys are welcome to learn more about how MHM extends to them as well. We received a lot of help from my #socialarmy, allowing girls frequenting the resource centre access to sanitary towels for the duration of their holiday.

As women, we know that this need does not go away without empowerment and while we continue to urge the government to implement the necessary policies to ensure this becomes sustainable, I’ll continue to play my part. My hope is that #MyFirstTimeBook will act as a sustainable way of funding the resource centre to ensure girls not only have supply of the products they need but also access to the right information too.

Which is why I would like to extend the pre-order duration of the book and set a goal of 1,000 copies, where the proceeds will go to funding activities at the resource centre. Share this post, spread the word and let’s work together to #EndPeriodPoverty.

To kick start off the new year she made it official by announcing that the book #MyFirstTime is now available for purchase. She wrote;

Happy New Year! Super excited to announce that my book, ‘My First Time’, is now available at the following Text Book Centre stores in Nairobi: Junction, Kijabe Retail, Galleria, TRM, The Hub, Two Rivers and Sarit!! I met a couple of you today who were buying it and I’m just thrilled! Details in Monday’s video including a little meet up I’m planning for some of you, next weekend 😊
I hope 2020 allows you to step out of your fears and see your dreams through ✨My First Time Stories
