Kenyan Nephrologist Professor Paul Kioy Succumbs To Covid-19

Another Kenyan doctor, renowned Nephrologist Professor Paul Kioy has succumbed to covid-19.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) announced Professor Paul Kioy’s death on Friday, January 8.

“The medical profession is mourning Prof. Paul G. Kioy who succumbed to COVID-19 complications. He was a Neurologist who served his patients with diligence, great teacher and mentor to many doctors in the country. Heartfelt condolences to the family and friends. The welfare, Safety and Health of the Doctors is paramount to the fight against COVID-19,” the announcement read.

Professor Kioy becomes the 14th Kenyan specialist to succumb to the novel Covid-19 disease.

Kenya’s medical fraternity has been mourning the deaths of specialist doctors to Covid-19, among them celebrated experts in various fields of medicine.

The country’s healthcare sector, already grappling with a shortage of specialists, says one doctor’s death leaves a large void that takes up to 15 years to fill.
