Kenya Ports Authority workers Patrick Nyoike and Isaac Obunga have been freed on Ksh. 2million cash bail after they denied charges of fraud.
Nyoike the General Manager of Finance and Obunga Clerical Officer were arraigned before Mombasa Chief Magistrate Edna Nyaloti on Monday.
They were arrested after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission completed investigations into irregular payments amounting to Ksh.214,548, 340.80.
Investigators unearthed the multi-million scandal where Mr Nyoike is said to have used his office to confer the funds to Nyali Capital Limited.
It was revealed that the KPA manager’s wife, Jacinta Wanjiku Wambugu, is the company’s General Manager while his brother Alfred Hinga Nyoike is one of the directors.
His co-accused, Obunga, is alleged to have irregularly identified Nyali Capital Limited as a vendor in the KPA vendor portal. “This clearly demonstrates a conflict of interest on the part of Patrick Wambugu Nyoike, the General Manager Finance at KPA,” the statement reads.
