On Tuesday, December 22, Machakos Senator Boniface Mutinda Kabaka was laid to rest at his home in Mikuyu Village, Masinga Sub-County.

Several high-profile leaders including Deputy President William Ruto, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and Senators Irungu Kangata, George Khaniri  and Amos Wako were in attendance.

Late Kabaka emerged into the political arena in 2013 when he contested for the Machakos senator seat but he lost to Johnstone Muthama.

Kabaka, being a lawyer was then recruited by Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua as the governor’s principal advisor on legal issues. His term at the Machakos County Government was however, short-lived, and he left office two years later.

The late senator made a political return in 2017, clinching Machako’s Senate seat on the Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) party ticket at a time when the wave of the Wiper Democratic Movement was raging throughout Ukambani.

He died on December 11, 2020, while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi a week after he ended up in the intensive care unit (ICU).
