On Friday 21 August, a number of Human Rights Activists stormed the Nairobi city to picket over the embezzled COVID-19 funds.

The group which had gathered at Uhuru Park’s freedom corner to start the protest was teargassed by police officers before being arrested.

According to posts shared on twitter by the team, it’s alleged 12 activists have been so far arrested in protest.

“The #ArrestCOVID19 Thieves protest had more plains clothes cops than protesters! A waste of public resources to protect thieves! “Release the 12 active citizens and arrest the real thieves @ NPSOfficial_KE. They are being held at central police station but not yet booked, ” read the tweet.

However other activists regrouped and spearheaded the protests claiming it was a peaceful protest. The police on the other hand argued the protest was not legal and going against MOH protocols.

The group had carried different placards some reading “arrest thieves”, “colonialism never really ended.”
