Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua was on Monday, October 26, arrested by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over Ksh12.5 Billion scandal.

This comes after the MP’s bank accounts containing Ksh35 Million, another Ksh165 million, and two more with Ksh1.1 million and Ksh700,000 were frozen with detectives seeking to establish the source of the huge sum that passed through his accounts.

Gachagua was taken to the DCI Headquarters along Kiambu road in Nairobi.

The MP is also on the target list of the Asset Recovery Agency, which is also investigating the source of billions.

Investigations revealed that two hairdressers and a former mobile money transfer agent were allegedly awarded multi-million – dollar tenders for the Mathira Constituency NG-CDF.

However, Gachagua argued that they were not fraudulent and that they followed the due process.

Detectives confirmed that Ksh150 million had been paid to two firms, after which a substantial portion of the money was transferred to companies allegedly owned by the MP.
