Nakuru East MP David Gikaria Arrested Over Ongoing Protests In Nakuru Town

Nakuru East MP David Gikaria has been arrested for allegedly threatening Nakuru County Police Commander Stanley Kilonzi.

This is after matatu operators engaged police officers in clashes, protesting a decision by the county government banning them from operating inside the town’s central business district.

Kilonzi claimed that Gikaria invaded his office to protest the decision of the police to stop the matatu protests.

“The MP created chaos in my office and threatened to beat me, accused me of sending officers to stop the protests in town. He said that I was being manipulated to block the protests that he said should have taken place. He charged at me wanting to assault me,” Kilonzi said.

Gikaria was taken to the Central Police Station in Nakuru Town where he will be charged for his conduct against the police boss.

The protest got messy, disrupting transport in the county. Traders were also forced to shut down their businesses as police officers fired teargas canisters at the rowdy matatu operators.
