President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered the government to purchase hospital beds from local Jua kali vendors who went viral after being posted by controversial blogger, Robert Alai.
The Head of State noted the innovative beds built by 26-year-old Mungai Gathogo and Joseph Muhinja 35 will be necessary in relieving public hospitals from the pressures of COVID-19 rising cases.
He then instructed the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) Secretary Andrew Wakahiu and Kiambu County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga to Githunguri to check the beds and convey the government’s decision.
With the rise of COVID-19 cases and imported hospital beds being expensive, the local artisans were determined to stop the crisis by making the beds locally.
