ODM leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday, October 28, travelled to Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in a trip that will last for two days.

Denis Onyango, Odinga’s Communication Director said the former Prime Minister was scheduled to meet with President Felix Tshisekedi to review progress on the Grand Inga Hydropower project.

Raila is expected to rally for political support for the power project that has been under discussion for some time.

The project aims at unlocking the world’s largest hydropower scheme and is part of the vision to develop a continental power system that is key to Africa’s manufacturing and value addition ambitions.

The dam has been declared Africa’s largest water project.

The project consists of eight separate dams with a power capacity of 43,500 MW and is estimated to cost $80 billion (approximately Ksh 8 trillion).
