For the first time, Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday said he was prepared to exit the ruling Jubilee Party for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) as his vehicle of choice in the 2022 presidential elections.

The Deputy President also hinted at a possible union with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, whom he celebrated as one fighting a similar war in the opposition which is fighting the emergence of tribal parties.

“Some people think I have problems with Raila. I do not. These differences are political. And there are things I agree with Raila. He is agreed on the need to form national parties and he is facing similar issues (in the opposition) I am facing of regional chieftains. And I want to say this: If anybody wants to partner with us to bring up the hustler, we have no problem. We support, we will work together,” said Dr Ruto at Radio Citizen.

Ruto somehow avoided campaign trails of the just concluded by elections as he let his allies use UDA for the election purposes.

Dr Ruto defended his association with UDA, saying since it was an affiliate of Jubilee, there was nothing wrong for him to associate with it. He also added that they have a coalition agreement with Jubilee, insisting that if there’s need for them to go independently they will, condemning the move to make Jubilee a tribal party.

The DP further condemned what looked like balkanising Kenya on regional blocks whose leaders he said were being propped for leadership.
