Senators Oppose Government’s Move To Transfer KMC To Ministry Of Defence

Senators have now opposed the government’s move to transfer Kenya Meat Commission to the Ministry of defense.

According to the lawmakers, they claimed there was no public involvement that was undertaken before the transfer.

The legislators also want Cabinet Secretaries for Defence and Agriculture to appear before the house for grilling session on the transfer matter.

The Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina said Kenya Defense force is the biggest liability to KMC as they owe the commission over sh 7 billion.

The senators also want to be informed on how long will the move of commission to KDF take effect.

This opposition comes barely a week after CS Munya through a memo to the livestock PS Harry Kimtai ordered the transfer of the responsibilities of KMC to the ministry of defence.

He further directed the PS to ensure coordination of the transfer in general including budgets with the National Treasury.
