The protesters faulted the county government over inadequate parking lots at Salgaa, which they said were occupied by lorries leaving no room for other motorists.
The fire engine, estimated to cost KSh 50 million was to put out bonfires lit by demonstrating BodaBoda operators at Salgaa area, along the busy Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
Julius Yeter, who was part of the firefighting team, said some protesters started stoning the fire engine before pouring petrol and setting it ablaze. Yeter said the truck driver, who could not drive off since two trailers had blocked the engine, was hurt in the incident.
