Tension Rises As Egypt Launches A Cyberattack At Ethiopia

There has been tension between the two countries Egypt and Ethiopia lately over the Renaissance Dam built along the River Nile.

River Nile provides for 90% of Egypt’s water needs and lately Egypt has been facing water scarcity. With a fail in an agreement, the two countries have seen the rise of tension with Egypt saying it might declare war on Ethiopia.

Recently, the Ethiopian Information Network Security Agency (EINSA) announced on Monday that they had been thwarting cyber attacks originating from Egypt. According to the Ethiopian News Agency (INA) reported on Tuesday, the cyber attacks had come from two hacking groups from Egypt, Horus Group” and “Anubis“, as per the reports released by the agency officials.

“The attempts of the cyber attack were carried out from 17 to 20 June, and were aimed at creating economic and political pressure on Ethiopia,” the agency said. The hacking attack attempt targeted 13 websites including security agencies, public service institutions and private organizations, as per to the statement given to The Eastern Herald.

This comes a few days after Egypt brought in the matter to the United Nations to help intervene on the matter and later said that no video of the dam should be taken.
