Celebrated Africa’s musical giant Diamond Plutnumz recently donated a mosque to the Kigoma Islmaic Clerics on December 31st 2019 as away of celebrating his 10 year musical Journey in the entertainment world.
As away of remembering where he came from, the ‘Yope’ hit maker took a train ride from Dar-es-salaaam to Kigoma. This is his native home. He was accompanied by different Bongo Flava artists; among them ‘Bob Junior.’ An artist/producer perceived to be the person behind his very first hit songs such as ‘Kamwambie’ and ‘Mbagala’.
Yes, same ‘Bob Junior’ who at one point were sworn enemies. Story for another day!

Back to our Story. Recently, one of Tanzania’s most respected Muslim cleric Sheikh Ponda Issa Ponda vehemently criticized fellow Muslim leaders in Kigoma for accepting a mosque built by Diamond.
He argues that the mosque was built by proceeds obtained from the ‘Secular world’ and that makes it haram based on Islamic teachings.
He blasted his peers for accepting the Mosque (Masjidi Al Aziz) and going further to conduct what he termed as a ‘special prayer session’ for Diamond following his kind gesture.
According to Sheikh Ponda, the prayers for Diamond to receive more blessings after his donation will not work considering what he does for a living was ‘Of the world.‘ He says Diamond’s money was not purely sourced as per Islamic teachings and law.
Sheikh Ponda Issa Ponda is the Secretary General of Tanzania Institute of Islamic Community.
