Tuffoam Mattresses factory in Kisumu County, located along Kisumu-Busia road in the outskirts of the city on Friday, November 13 caught fire.
Kisumu County Police Commander Ranson Lolmodooni confirmed the incident, stating that the fire started after 1 PM.
Smoke from the fire could be seen from a few kilometers away and motorists were advised to approach the area with caution. Firefighters from the county were deployed to put down the fire.
The fire began at the Modern Electrical and Hardware, with firefighters responding but unable to put out the massive fire that had ravaged the premises.
Lolmodooni stated that the cause of the fire was still not known. He also noted that the value of the property destroyed in the fire remained unknown as rescue operations were underway. It was not clear whether there were any casualties in the incident.
