Two police officers accused of killing a suspect while in custody in Matungulu, Machakos County, have pleaded not guilty to the offence of murder.

Erick Odhiambo Amollo and Cornelius Ndambuki Munyao were arraigned before Justice George Odunga in Machakos on Wednesday, May 23.

The medical report, according to Justice Odunga, shows that both police officers are mentally fit to stand trial.

The two were released on a bond of Ksh.500,000 each and sureties of similar amounts and are currently being held at the Machakos GK Prisons.

The case will be mentioned on July 7, 2021 for pre-trial at the same court.

Odhiambo and Ndambuki are accused of killing Mark Lumbasi Natala, who died at the KBC Police Station in Matungulu on March 9, 2021.

An investigation was launched into the incident, which was later taken over by the Machakos CCIO.

Upon completion, the CCIO forwarded the file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in Machakos who then advised that the two officers be charged with the offence of murder.
