Uganda: Male “fake” bride has been charged in court!

Remember the Ugandan male ‘bride’ who got married to an Imam? well, the guy has been charged in the Uganda courts for unnatural offence and theft.

Mr. Richard Tumushabe who pretended to be a woman and ended up getting married by Imam Mohammed Mutumba in Kampala, Uganda appeared before a court yesterday and was charged with two counts of theft and committing an ‘unnatural offence.’

“It is true I did something wrong and I regret it, but my current condition forced me to do it. I’m born of Ishaka but grew up in Kampala streets under very harsh conditions that forced me to act the way I did and I regret it.” Mr Richard said before entering the courtroom.

Sheikh Mutumba, the Imam of Kyampisi Masjid Noor Mosque in Kayunga District said he unknowingly married Mr Richard who masqueraded as ‘Swabullah Nabukeera” in a colorful wedding according to the Islamic culture.

The truth only came out two weeks later when “Swabullah” was arrested on theft allegations and during a body search by a female police officer.

Imam hakusoma katiba!

Mr Tumushabe, 19, was charged with theft of a television set and clothes worth UGX 2.3M. The property of Mr one Jimmy of Kyampisi Village.

The suspect will remain in-custody until January 24th, when his case will be mentioned again.
