University Vice-Chancellors are scheduled to meet with Members of Parliament next week to table their complaints over Ksh2.2 billion salary arrears for workers.

The lecturers stated that they are yet to receive increased pay despite signing the 2017/21 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) in October 2019.

They claimed that only Ksh6.6 billion out of the Ksh8.8 billion agreed funds was released by the government earlier this year.

They also claimed that the majority of the funds released only settled administrative expenses and students’ facilitation as well as part of university worker’s salaries. The VCs called for the release of the remaining funds to put an end to issues with the workers.

University Academic Staff Union (UASU) officials however argued that the government had met its end of the deal by releasing all the funds during the annual capitation in July. This point was opposed by the VCs who argued that they had been short-changed in the process.
