What could have possibly gone wrong with Kobe Bryant’s plane

Its been a whole day since the death of the former mega star baskeball player Kobe Bryant. The whole world has been morning this super star but now their attention is shifting to why did that helicopter crash in the first place?

Kobe Bryant’s former pilot has claimed that the Sikorsky S-76B that was carrying the NBA legend and eight others when it crashed into a hillside Sunday morning is such a ‘reliable’ aircraft that it wouldn’t just fall out of the sky. The Sikorsky S-76B is a twin engine helicopter with a complex system able to fly over 2500 feet and is subjected to very good maintainance program. Also to add is the fact that it is not just flown by any pilot cause any pilot flying the Sikorsky S-76B is subjected to a couple thousand hours of practice before actually flying the plane.

On that fateful Sunday morning, at around 9:06 am, Kobe Bryant, 41, his daughter, Gianna, 13, John Altobelli, 56, his wife, Keri, and their daughter Alyssa as well as Payton Chester and her mom, Sarah, as well as Christina Mauser, lift off from the run way heading to the Thousand Oaks place. About 15 minutes later i noted that they start making circles over Burbank airport before it is cleared to go ahead. They are told to head on south following the Highway 101 west towards Thousands Oaks place and a few minutes later it join the Las Virgenes road heading south. A few minutes later it crashes on one of the hills killing all the nine occupants.

So what was the cause of the deadly crash just experienced? Former Kobe’s pilot says that the Sikorsky S-76B, with its double engine n good maintainance is highly likely to crash due to bad weather rather than system failure. Its been noted that the pilot was heard asking if he could use the Special Visual Flight Rules(SVFR) which is rarel used. Under an SVFR clearance, pilots are allowed to fly in weather conditions worse than those allowed for visual flight rules (VFR). Special VFR clearances are only issued when cloud ceilings are below 1,000 feet above ground level.

In air traffic control audio which was recorded shortly before the crash, the pilot of the former Lakers star’s helicopter is told by a controller that ‘you’re still too low level’ to be tracked by radar. Also noted was the fact that other planes were heard complaining of the bad weather terming it as ‘not good’.

By the end of the day, until the official statement is released, all clues point out the the bad weather was the reason as to why we lost such a huge basketball star. Unless stated otherwise, for now all seems to be the bad weather at California at that time of day.
