A 53-year-old school headteacher was found on Saturday 29, August hanging from the roof of a staffroom in a school located in Nyeri.
Joseph Mwangi, a headteacher at Baraka Academy in Nyeri was found after residents reported to the area chief of a foul smell coming from the school.
“The chief found the body partly eaten by what is believed to be rats, dangling from the rooftop, with a sisal rope tied to the neck,” said Mathira East police boos, James Baraza.
It was later said by his landlord he was last seen at his rented house on Wednesday 26 August.
“Recently, Mwangi was not himself. He was behaving in a strange manner occasioned by financial constraints after the school he was teaching at was closed down,” narrated a neighbor of his.
Others stated they believed the cause of Joseph taking his own life was resulted by his separation from his family.
The deceased’s body has been taken to the Karatina Hospital Morgue and investigations into the matter launched.
