Allan Wadi, the Moi university student who was jailed for two years for insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta on social media, has been freed on appeal after his lawyer argued that he was not mentally fit when pleading guilty to the charge six months ago.
“I am insane and would want to meet President Uhuru and apologies in person”
He was arrested for insults and defaming Kenya’s president on social media. Kenyans on Twitter even tried to drum for his release but, the courts decided to sentence him, probably as a lesson to other people with such intentions
Justice Luka Kimaru on hearing the appeal from the student determined that indeed his admission of guilty was not in order and thus ordered his release from jail.
