Butere Member of Parliament Tindi Mwale has sent a petition to the National Assembly claiming that university students who have finished their internships should be considered for employment opportunities as soon as they appear.

Mwale argues using chapter 52 of the constitution which states that the state shall take measures including affirmative action programs to ensure that the youth access relevant education and training, have opportunities to associate, be represented and participate in political, social, economic and other spheres of life and have access to employment.

According to his petition, he recommended, “(1) Immediate review of the comparables provided by the Ministry of Public Service with the aim of up valuing 100 per centum transition to scale up the rates of employment. (2) That the civil service who are retiring with vacancies being created to be given to the interns for absorption….”

This has come at the wake of increased unemployment as more of those unemployed are mostly graduates who end up tarmacking on the roads while institutions look for older and more experienced people.
