Churchill comedian Edwin Butita has filed a lawsuit against multinational e-commerce platform that used his image to sell their goods.

Butita’s lawyers clarified that they filed the suit with a commercial court in Nairobi a month after providing the company with a petition notice.

Butita seeks Ksh 10 million in compensation, claiming that the company used his image and branding rights to sell its products without consulting him.

“We are going to court. Currently, we are processing court documents which we will be serving the firm in the next 10 to 14 days.

“We are seeking compensation for commercialisation of our client’s online brand to market their Black Friday sales without paying for it. We are basically seeking damages for our client that could go up to Ksh10 million,” stated his lawyers.

The multinational corporation allegedly claimed that the brand name of the comedian is not a trademark that deserves compensation.
