On Saturday 7 November, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) warned young women in Nairobi to be cautious of a new criminal trick where the victims are enticed with bus fare and other lavish promises.

The warning was issued after the DCI Serious Crimes Unit arrested a suspect in connection with the mysterious disappearance of young women from different city colleges.

The 21-year-old suspect hatched his plan on a number of tour and social media groups, disguising as a wealthy suitor.

After convincing his victims that he was able to take them to their dream holiday destinations, he would send them bus fare and arrange a meet up in guest rooms where  he would rob and mistreat the victims.

The Serious Crimes Unit under the DCI Office was deployed to bring the suspect to the down.

After thorough investigation, the officers arrested the fraudster who finally led them to his hiding place. Valuable stolen items belonging to the victims were recovered.
