A forwarding and clearing company driver smashed two brand-new land cruisers under a low bridge in Thika, Kiambu County, on Thursday, October 29.

The driver unsuccessfully tried to pass under the low bridge despite having carried vehicles that surpassed the height of the bridge.

The accident occurred at Delview Overpass, creating traffic for motorists driving towards Nairobi County.

A section of Kenyans accused the driver of negligence. Some accused the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) of not displaying signs to illustrate the height of the bridge. The road signs and traffic symbols are key responsibility of the authority.

According to KeNHA, road overbridges have a minimum clearance of 5.5 metres from the road crown to the girders, beams or deck while the minimum horizontal clearance from road shoulder to the inner edge of the pier or abutment is around 2.0 metres.
