A truck lost control and hit a bridge at Daraja Mbili market in Kisii Town on Thursday, October 29.

Kisii County Communications Director Jeff Akunga, confirmed the incident, explaining that the lorry transporting cereals drove off the road and steered through the market, and hit nearby motorbikes.

Dennis Nyamwara, Chairman of Daraja Mbili Market, said only five people were injured and taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.

“Residents alerted the traders upon seeing the vehicle lose control. I highly urge all drivers to take precaution when driving along these busy roads,” he said.

He also appreciated the timely response of the County Police officers who rushed to the scene of the accident to settle matters.

Traders who unlawfully engage in business on busy roads instead of designated markets were warned.

According to Kenya Police, Daraja Mbili-Bondo junction was identified as a blackspot and considered risky for motorists due to the number of accidents that have occurred in the area.
