Embakasi DCIO Simon Mutia Mwongela was on Thursday, May 13, arrested after allegedly shooting dead a guard.

According to a police officer who arrived at the scene, the incident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. in a bar in Kayole when the DCIO demanded entry.

The guard inside refused to open the door, claiming it was too late, prompting the police boss to fire one shot in an attempt to force the door open.

The bullet went through and hit the guard in the chest killing him instantly.

Inspector General of police Hilary Mutyambai ordered investigations into the incident, adding that the matter was being investigated as a murder case.

“He has been arrested for among others probe into murder and misuse of his weapon,” he said.

The incident came just two days after two officers accused of shooting and killing a businesswoman in 2018, were found guilty of manslaughter.

High Court judge Stella Mutuku ruled that the constables shot with the aim of killing businesswoman Janet Waiyaki and her nephew.
