Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has been sworn in office for a sixth term on Wednesday 12 May 2021, with the promise of upholding democracy.

Speaking at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala on Wednesday, Museveni said Uganda is a democratic country that doesn’t need any endorsement from external forces.

President Uhuru Kenyatta who doubles as the chairman of the East African Community was among African leaders who attended Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala.

“It’s quite comic and laughable to hear some actors in the world giving us a lecture about democracy. You give me a lecture about democracy what are your own credentials?” He posed.

The 76-year-old said his ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) designed the current system in Uganda after a long period of the bush war.

“This system was designed not from the air-conditioned rooms but from the jungles of our country where we lived with the people in their huts those days for much of the 16 years of the resistance, 1971-1986,” Museveni said.
