A dormitory called Oparanya hostel at Musingu High School, Kakamega, which was named in honor of the Kakamega governor was razed by fire just a day after they reopened school.

The crowd tried to put out the fire but their efforts went down the drain.

Rogers Anyika, a resident, stated that it took around two to three hours in order to contain the fire.

No casualties were confirmed. The cause of the fire is yet to be identified, although reports say that the fire may have been caused by an electrical fault.

“The fire broke out at around 10 am. This is not the first time the dormitory is being burnt down. The students were busy in class when the fire broke out, so we believe they are all safe. We only managed to salvage a few items,” Bernard Kibuzi, one of the first respondents to the scene.
